SERVICES - Emergency Management
The Borough of Newville is served by a very capable Emergency Management Coordinator Robert H. Shively, Jr. Mr. Shively serves as Deputy Director of Public Safety for Cumberland County, and he is currently serving as president of the Western Emergency Management Association.
The primary duty of the Emergency Management Coordinator is to direct borough, county and state resources at the municipal level during the time of an emergency which may include either a natural or man-made disaster. Given Bob's professional background and his present employment with the Cumberland County Office of Emergency Preparedness, the residents of Newville Borough could not find themselves in more capable hands.
The Borough of Newville participates in a Regional Emergency Management Mutual Aid Pact with several neighboring municipalities which include: West Pennsboro Township, North Newton Township, Upper Mifflin Township, Lower Mifflin Township, Lower Frankford Township and Newburg Borough. Under the terms of the mutual aid agreement the local Emergency Management Coordinators have selected a Deputy Coordinator to administer their duties in the event of an emergency. The agreement allows all of the municipalities to share individually or jointly the professional services of the six local emergency coordinators. In addition, the participating municipalities have agreed to share resources in the event of an emergency. This will include the exchange of manpower and equipment.
The positions of Local Emergency Management Coordinator and Deputy Emergency Management Coordinator are voluntary positions. The Local Emergency Management Coordinator is appointed subject to the confirmation of the Governor of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
The borough of Newville wishes to recognize the support provided by the Cumberland County Office of Emergency Preparedness through Cumberland County Emergency Preparedness Director J. Theordore Wise and Eric W. Hoerner, Chief of Operations.
